JOE D. MITCHELL began his legal practice in Texas in 1976 and has over 25 years of experience. His practice includes corporate and commercial transactions, entity formation, contracts, estate planning, probate and taxation. Mr. Mitchell represents public and private companies, professionals and individuals in a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions as well as structuring and organizing business entities such as partnerships, limited liability companies, professional associations and corporations. Mr. Mitchell’s estate planning practice includes federal estate and gift tax advice, and the preparation of wills, trusts and related documents. His estate and probate practice includes representation of estates in probate proceedings and preparation and filing of federal and state estate and inheritance tax returns. Mr. Mitchell also has experience in federal and state tax planning and controversy matters.
Mr. Mitchell obtained his undergraduate degree from Duke University, where he graduated cum laude, and his Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Notes and Comments Editor of the Southwestern Law Journal. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas, the U.S. Tax Court, and the U.S. Court of Claims. He was Chairman of the Small Business and Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas from 1998-2000.
